End the Wars on Domain Names

In the world of domain names, where entrepreneurial aspirations can flourish or flounder, I have personally experienced distressing predatory practices that threaten my success and livelihood. Owning a domain-based business should be an opportunity for innovation and growth, not a harrowing battle against unfair tactics from the community or by some domain registrar hackers. Many others, like myself, feel the looming shadow of what seems to be a conspiracy against small domain owners, stifling creativity and success.

Unregulated and predatory practices by certain domain registrar hackers are more common than one might think. These predators, who hack the backbone of our online identities, can exploit their positions to destroy somebody’s personal success. These actions not only erode trust but can cause financial strain and emotional distress for individuals and businesses dependent on their employment jobs and online presence.

Data from industry reports indicate that hundreds of small start-up business owners face these challenges yearly, finding themselves at the mercy of practices that can border on extortion. When a domain is arbitrarily registered by an owner, prices may be out of reach, or rendered inaccessible due to vague law breaking shifts, the impact is always devastating. What was once a thriving business can quickly turn into a desperate struggle for survival.

Federal oversight by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Congress is crucial to protect individuals and businesses against these predatory behaviors. By establishing a regulatory framework, it’s possible to ensure fair pricing, transparent renewal terms, and secure transfer processes. Congress should implement stricter protection for registrar owners who need fair practice norms, and the FTC needs to actively investigate complaints.

We need strong, decisive action to correct these community issues. This isn’t just about a single industry; it’s about ensuring that the digital marketplace upholds fair practices for everyone, allowing innovation to prosper. Only with federal intervention can we curb the abuses by the community that undermine the trust and stability of our success as domain name owners.

Please sign this petition to urge the FTC and Congress to step up their roles in protecting domain owners like myself from unchecked exploitation. Together, we can create a safer, more equitable online space for all entrepreneurs, charities, educational platforms, and business owners.
